WM 241 – Risk Management and Planning provides an overview of risk and uncertainty, including what this looks like from a flood risk management perspective, and how you measure, assess and express both.
This course is designed to follow on from:
- WM 104 – Introduction to Flood Risk Asset Management, which introduced an overarching framework and its four components for flood risk asset management, and
- WM 240 – Inspection and Performance, which covered inspection and performance in more detail.
It is completed wholly online, at the time and place of your choosing.
Overview
WM 241 provides an overview of risk and uncertainty, including what this looks like from a flood risk management perspective, and how you measure, assess and express both.
The course also covers what tools, measures and instruments are available to manage flood risk, including what is involved in flood risk analyses and the development of flood risk management plans.
Flood emergency management is examined, including who is typically involved, as well as best practice processes from reduction through to readiness, response and recovery.
The final part of the course will discuss the importance of managing flood risk management assets over their whole lifecycle and how developing asset management plans can facilitate this process.
Throughout this course you will gain an applied knowledge of:
- What are risk and uncertainty, what do both look like in flood risk management, and how do you assess and express both?
- How you assess flood risk, how flood risk is managed, and what is in the flood risk manager’s toolbox
- The components of flood risk analysis, and what data should be collected
- What is involved in floodplain risk management planning, including how to develop a floodplain management plan
- What and who are involved in flood emergency management, including key principles and best practice processes to follow
- The importance of developing asset management plans and managing flood risk management assets over their whole lifecycle.
