NAMS Property Manual

Due to the wide range of property intensive industries that saw the value in applying infrastructure planning principles to building assets, the NAMS Property Manual was written to be a comprehensive guide to the management of property assets.

The guidelines provide the essential skills to manage and plan good property asset business practice and are recommended for both commercial organisations and public bodies.

The manual is divided into 8 sections:

1. Introduction – the benefits that Property Asset Managers will gain from the manual
2. The Asset Planning Framework – 5 models that help in understanding concepts of Property Asset Management
3. Knowing What You Have – how to implement and use an Information Management Strategy
4. Know What You Need – strategic considerations and tying this to property assets
5. Know What’s Possible – developing options to address gaps
6. Do the Right Thing and Make It Happen – how the property asset planning process should link with the completion of physical works
7. Tool Kit – useful tools to help the Asset Manager get started, or facilitate some of the tasks required
8. Case Studies – examples from organisations that practice the principles to help the reader understand and give them confidence.

A former New Zealand Auditor General, Kevin O’Brady described the NAMS Property Manual: “I believe the application of the asset management planning process within this guideline will considerably enhance the long term prudent management of property assets within Local Government.
