Āpōpō hosted this webinar with the Commerce Commission on its draft decision for information disclosure in the water sector.
As the economic regulator for water, the Commission is developing its rules (or ID requirements) that will require councils and water organisations to publicly share key performance information. This marks a major step toward greater transparency and accountability in how water supply and wastewater services are delivered across Aotearoa.
The Commission recognises the significant mahi already underway by councils and water organisations as they navigate new statutory deadlines and regulatory expectations. That’s why it’s proposing a staged and proportionate approach to introducing ID requirements, and that the requirements are effective and achievable.
This webinar provided an overview of the Commission’s draft ID requirements, which focus on three critical areas: asset management and investment, financial sustainability, and ring-fencing of funding used for water services.
