Taumata Arowai seeks feedback on drinking water Network Environmental Performance Measures

The new water services regulator, Taumata Arowai is consulting on proposed Drinking Water Standards, Quality Assurance Rules, Aesthetic Values, Acceptable Solutions for Roof Water Supplies, Spring and Bore Water Supplies, and Rural Agricultural Water Supplies. These will each contribute to the new framework for the supply of safe drinking water across Aotearoa.

All the consultation documents can be found on Te Puna Kōrero, the engagement and consultation hub for Taumata Arowai: https://te-puna-korero.taumataarowai.govt.nz/. If you have any questions about consultation please email korero@taumataarowai.govt.nz.

Taumata Arowai is also consulting on proposed new Drinking Water Network Environmental Performance Measures which will apply to councils, council-controlled organisations and government departments.

The aim of these new measures is to provide greater transparency about the performance of networks and the impacts they have on the environment. They will also contribute to the improvement of water services.

Taumata Arowai would love your feedback on all the consultation documents, in particular for Drinking Water Network Environmental Performance, Taumata Arowai is interested in feedback on whether they have identified the right measures and phasing (at this stage, over three years).

Taumata Arowai acknowledges that there is a lot being asked of councils right now and they appreciate any time you can make to look at the proposal. To minimise the burden on councils, Taumata Arowai is working with other agencies and organisations to minimise any overlap between data requests and to ensure that information is collected as efficiently as possible.

Taumata Arowai plans to do further targeted engagement on the Drinking Water Network Environmental Performance Measures following the close of public consultation on 28 March. This will include discussions around the technical details of data collection and reporting. If you or your organisation are interested in being part of this please let us know by emailing korero@taumataarowai.govt.nz.
