Version 1.1, October 2016

Reliability Engineering has a broad scope and as such, this document is based on the assumption that most readers have existing assets and are looking at better ways to manage the reliability associated with them. For this reason, this document focuses on the “in service” phase of the asset lifecycle.

We recognise that you will spend more time and money if you don’t have the right assets in the first place, and we recognise that prior stages are also important by getting and asset design right in the first place.

Reliability Engineering is a toolbox. There are many sections with many tools that apply across the whole lifecycle. But some tools are used more often than others, and some times are more general whereas others have very specific applications. This document describes the applicability of techniques to be used for these purposes.
