Version 1, June 2015
Organisational Structure and Culture are important because they both have a profound effect on how people perceive asset management, what they perceive as good practice, what amount of change they believe is possible, how they behave, and how committed they feel to the organisation’s goals and objectives.
Structure is a crucial concern because the way people are organised affects how well they work together, how communications and information flows around the organisation and the development of organisational culture including sub cultures. Sub cultures are often associated with boundaries and barriers that are reinforced by organisational structure.
The solution is to have a structure that best suits the requirements of the organisation. However, it is not easy to determine what this should be because different structures will suit different organisations.
