11 March 2026 - 13 March 2026

Online via Teams - details to be sent to attendees

This course is delivered in an online session via Teams (9am – 1pm on 11 and 13 March).

The Investment Logic Mapping (ILM) methodology is widely used to justify investment decisions, based on evidence and proof that the real problems are being addressed and expected benefits are real and measurable.

The ILM course introduces the ILM methodology and how it relates to New Zealand Treasury’s Better Business Case (BBC) framework. Attendees will gain an understanding of how an Investment Logic Map is assembled using critical thinking and how it is used to inform the Strategic and Economic Cases that underpin a business case.

Note: This course isn’t designed to support someone looking to become an accredited ILM Facilitator. It focuses on the objectives, tools, and process of the ILM.

    Description

    Course Outline

The course is held on-line, and comprises two, four-hour sessions over two days. It commences with a description of and need for the ILM approach, and progresses through each of the problem, benefit, strategic intervention and solution phases of a typical ILM development.

    Who Should Attend

The course is aimed at participants from central and local government agencies and authorities who are responsible for development or approval of business cases seeking investment funding.

ILM is also used to focus the thinking to develop an organisation’s strategic plan and Statement of Intent (SOI) and the development of Long-Term Plans (LTP).
