Version 1.1, October 2016
Asset management is sometimes often incorrectly perceived as the delivery of maintenance processes – it is much more than this.
The ‘time scope’ of asset management does include day-to-day operational delivery, but also tactical in-year planning and provision and, crucially, longer term life cycle considerations of the asset or asset system. Stakeholder engagement, demand management, supplier relationship management, risk management, capability development, financial control and knowledge management are all (nonexhaustive) aspects of asset management. The scope of asset management service is typically dependant on an organisation’s functional structure, but ideally should join capital and revenue investment streams including projects, maintenance, energy and utilities and may also include operational facilities management.
This document provides guidance for the following elements of asset management:
- Asset Management Policy
- Asset Management Strategy
- Asset Management Plans.
The document also suggests the use of Asset Management Frameworks as a good practice approach for communicating the connectivity of asset management and other business processes.
