Our Connections

Āpōpō has a long history of working collaboratively and successfully with peer organisations around the world.

Our international connections enable us to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues far and wide.

The World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM) Board admitted Āpōpō as a Partner Organisation in September 2024.

WPiAM is a worldwide partnership, established in 2014, of national non-profit professional associations working together to enable individuals and organisations to develop, assess and recognise competence in Asset Management, for the benefit of their members and of the asset management community globally.  The Founding Partners are GFMAM members, but Partnership can include other organisations that meet the WPiAM selection criteria (read their statement on the difference between WPiAM and GFMAM here).

What does this mean for Āpōpō?

Being a Partner of WPiAM means Āpōpō is actively supporting the development and maintenance of global asset management practice standards and assessment of competence in their application.  We anticipate taking to the world our own experience and making it simple for our members to navigate a career path enabled with formal and globally recognised certifications and accreditation.

We work with the eight other national non-profit professional associations across the globe, who are working together with the values of: integrity; duty to the global asset management community; and collaboration.

What does this mean for Āpōpō members?

In time, Āpōpō is aiming to issue WPiAM certifications in parallel with our own Asset Management Chartered Professional (AMCP) accreditation, providing members with dual transferrable competency recognition for both their valuable global knowledge and their practice of asset management here in Aotearoa New Zealand.  We plan on encouraging employers and specifiers to require accredited professionals to be engaged to carry out asset management work so as to lift the credibility and effectiveness of meeting their obligations as infrastructure asset owners.

Āpōpō members get a discount on the CAMA exam fee. If you are a member, log in to see the code.

Āpōpō is a longtime member of IFME – International Federation of Municipal Engineering.

IFME’s mission is to connect municipal engineers and public works professionals, public agencies, organisations, institutions and businesses around the world in order to share a global pool of knowledge and experience. Their aim is to foster continuous improvement in the quality of public works and wider community services.

Āpōpō Past-President, Priyani de Silva-Currie, has been elected by the 16 member countries of IFME as Vice President for the 2024-2027 term.  As Vice President, Priyani will later take up the Presidency of IFME for the 2027-2030 term.

Priyani has represented Āpōpō at IFME since 2015, leading their Marketing and Communications initiatives to deliver global connections for technical and non-technical knowledge sharing.

Āpōpō Life Member Ross Vincent held the Presidency in 2015 for the IFME World Congress hosted in Rotorua, which attracted over 200 international delegates and almost 500 New Zealand attendees.

The sixteen country members of IFME are key. Well over half our Āpōpō members are in local government and more than 70% of New Zealand's infrastructure by value is in public hands. We regularly bring our members learning opportunities from this global organisation delivered by its member organisations.

We are proud to have become the 15th member organisation in the GFMAM - Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management in May 2024.

GFMAM is a non-profit organisation founded to promote and develop the maintenance & asset management professions by collaborating on knowledge, standards and practices.

Being a member of GFMAM is an important connection for Āpōpō. It positions us to bring our members the best asset management practices from around the world through globally recognised organisations.

We have also adopted the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape as the technical basis for establishing competency for our new Asset Management Chartered Professional accreditation.

The American Public Works Association (APWA) is a non-profit organisation that prides itself on its ability to provide varied educational and networking opportunities that help public works personnel grow in their professionalism and improve the quality of life in the communities they serve.

Āpōpō President Gary Porteous and Āpōpō CE Murray Pugh signed a fresh MoU with APWA in April 2024. APWA represents 32,000 federal, city and county officials and suppliers, supporting them to operate, improve, and maintain public works and infrastructure through advocacy, education, and member engagement.

Our new MoU sets out arrangements for the exchange of ideas, technology, resources, and management practices for the benefit of our respective members.  Our Āpōpō members are able to benefit from APWA member-only pricing for all APWA products and programs while APWA members similarly benefit from member only pricing for our Āpōpō products such as Digital Badges.  We also support each other’s conferences through hosting visiting delegates, enhancing the collaboration experience all the way across the Pacific. As INGENIUM we entered our first MoU with APWA in 2004.
