Āpōpō Celebrates Two New Chartered Professionals in Asset Management: Gary Porteous and Damien Douglas
Āpōpō – Infrastructure Asset Management Professionals is proud to congratulate Gary Porteous and Damien Douglas on achieving the Asset Management Chartered Professional (AMCP) accreditation.
Awarded through Āpōpō’s Professional Practice Accreditation programme, both also gained their Certified Senior Practitioner in Asset Management (CSAM) credential, issued by Āpōpō on behalf of the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM). Their achievement reinforces the strength and global credibility of the dual-accreditation pathway now available in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This recognition marks a major milestone – not only for Damien and Gary personally, but for the growing visibility and credibility of asset management as a profession.
Damien Douglas brings around 20 years of infrastructure asset management experience to his role as Service Line Leader – Network Management at WSP. With a career spanning New Zealand, the UK, and Australia, Damien is known for his practical, evidence-based approach to improving network performance and resilience. His leadership has shaped pavement and asset strategies for major clients including Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, with a strong focus on whole-of-life infrastructure decisions that support connected, sustainable communities.
Gary Porteous, Āpōpō’s current President, and Client Director – Asset and Network Performance at WSP, is a well-respected leader within the asset management community. A Chartered Professional Engineer and GFMAM member representative, Gary has long championed the development of capability across the sector. His extensive international experience, technical expertise, and commitment to raising standards have contributed significantly to the profession’s evolution in both Aotearoa and abroad.

Following in the footsteps of Priyani de Silva-Currie MNZM, New Zealand’s first AMCP, these newly chartered professionals exemplify the leadership, skill, and integrity at the heart of asset management. Their achievements show how locally grounded expertise can meet – and exceed – international standards, highlighting the value of accreditation in lifting trust, transparency, and professionalism across the system.
Āpōpō warmly congratulates Damien and Gary on this outstanding accomplishment and acknowledges their continued leadership in shaping a resilient, future-focused infrastructure system for Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
