“Asset Management Data Standard Multimodal Network Model” is a finalist for the 2025 Āpōpō Asset Management Excellence Awards.

NZTA and WSP, in partnership with the land transport sector, have created a national open data Network Model for transport planning and asset management. The model is a digital representation of where transport users can travel, now and into the future. All transport Controlling Authorities have come on the journey, and we’re delighted they’ve enthusiastically engaged in the process.

All involved: WSP and NZTA Waka Kotahi

NZTA, in collaboration with WSP have created a digital model of New Zealand’s land transport network, providing a backbone for improved services, performance, decision-making, and mode accessibility for transport across the country.

This open data unified model is a single source of truth, transforming asset management and transport planning. As a key component of NZTA’s digital enablement strategy, the model connects people, products, and places, and provides a foundational platform for national digital enablement.

The model covers vehicle, rail, and ferry routes, pathways and tracks, enhancing visibility and understanding of modal travel. By integrating data from multiple systems, the model supports collaboration and empowers the sector to make better investment decisions, driving efficiencies and enhancing the travel experience for their communities.
